Early detection is the best protection

Our Objectives: The Roadmap to 60%

Clinical Excellence & Accessibility

  • Zero-Cost Treatment: To ensure that no child defaults on treatment due to cost by providing 100% free chemotherapy drugs, blood products, and diagnostic scans (CT/MRI).

  • The “Right to the Fight”: To provide logistical support through transport allowances, ensuring that distance from the capital is never a death sentence for a rural child.

  • Decentralized Care: To expand our reach beyond Harare, strengthening our Bulawayo office and provincial partnerships to bring care closer to home.

Early Detection: “Catch it Early, Save a Life”

  • National Capacity Building: To train 100% of primary healthcare workers, nurses, and village health workers to recognize the early warning signs of the most common childhood cancers: Leukaemia, Wilms’ Tumour (kidney), and Retinoblastoma (eye).

  • Referral Streamlining: To reduce the time between first symptom and first treatment by establishing a seamless referral pathway from rural clinics to specialized oncology units.

Advocacy & Policy Leadership

  • Standardized Protocols: To lead the advocacy for national, standardized pediatric oncology guidelines within the public health system.

  • Faith-Based Outreach: To partner with traditional and religious leaders (such as the Apostolic Council of Churches) to dispel myths about cancer and encourage medical intervention alongside spiritual support

Psychosocial & Holistic Care

  • Zero Abandonment: To maintain and expand the Rainbow Children’s Village, providing a “halfway home” that offers nutrition, accommodation, and safety to eliminate treatment abandonment.
  • Mending the Spirit: To provide professional counseling and weekly peer support groups for caregivers, recognizing that when a child has cancer, the whole family needs healing.

Sustainability & Governance

  • Secure Funding: To build a diverse, domestically-driven funding model that reduces dependence on external aid, ensuring the “KidzCan Promise” remains secure for future generations.

  • Volunteer Empowerment: To cultivate a world-class volunteer corps that is professionally trained to provide psychosocial relief in hospital wards.

The Three Enablers

Centers of Excellence

We are committed to establishing specialized pediatric oncology wards, like Ward A4 at Parirenyatwa, staffed with expert multidisciplinary teams to provide top-notch care.

Universal Health Coverage

Our goal is to integrate childhood cancer care into the National Health Strategy, ensuring families are not financially burdened by treatment costs.

Regimens and Roadmaps

We implement standardized, evidence-based treatment plans for the most common and curable childhood cancers, ensuring consistent and effective care.

The Four Pillars (C-U-R-E)

C – Centers of Excellence:
U -Universal Health Coverage:
R – Regimens and Roadmaps:
E – Evaluation and Monitoring

Establishing specialized pediatric oncology wards (like Ward A4 at Parirenyatwa) with trained multidisciplinary teams (surgeons, oncologists, nurses, and social workers).

Integrating childhood cancer into the National Health Strategy so that “out-of-pocket” costs don’t bankrupt families.

Using standardized, evidence-based treatment plans for the six “tracer” cancers (listed below) that are most common and curable.

Building a robust National Cancer Registry to track every child’s progress and ensure no one “drops out” of the system.
