Go Orange for KidzCan: February is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
February in Zimbabwe isn’t just another month—it’s Orange Month. This is the time when our nation comes together to shine a spotlight on a critical mission: ensuring that the message “Early diagnosis saves lives” reaches every corner of the country.
With childhood cancer survival rates in Zimbabwe currently sitting at around 20%, our goal is to reach the global Roadmap to 60—increasing that rate to 60% by 2030. But we can’t do it without you.
How You Can Get Involved Right Now
1 Buy the “Orange Socks” at TM Pick n Pay
Our partnership with TM Pick n Pay Zimbabwe is back! Head to your nearest branch and grab a pair of the iconic KidzCan Orange Socks. Every pair purchased goes directly toward funding chemotherapy, diagnostic tests, and transport for our brave little fighters. It’s the easiest (and most stylish) way to make a direct impact.
2 Wear Orange Every Friday
Join schools, corporates, and individuals across the country by “Going Orange” every Friday this February. Whether it’s an orange tie, a scarf, or your new socks from TM Pick n Pay, wear it with pride.
The “Orange Tax”: Many offices and schools have a fun “fine”—donate a dollar for every person wearing orange to help fund a child’s CT scan or ultrasound.
3 Look for the KidzCan Orange Collection Tins
While you’re doing your grocery shopping at TM Pick n Pay, look out for the orange collection tins at the tills. Your spare change might seem small, but collectively, it covers the cost of life-saving medications for families who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
4 Share the Signs on Social Media
Follow KidzCan Zimbabwe on Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter). This month, we are sharing the “Early Warning Signs” for the top three childhood cancers in Zimbabwe: Leukemia, Wilms’ Tumour (Kidney), and Retinoblastoma (Eye). One share from you could help a parent identify a symptom early enough to save their child’s life.
Why Your Support Matters
Every dollar raised this month helps bridge the gap between a “death sentence” and a future. Your support provides:
$20
Transport for a child to travel to Harare for life-saving treatment.
$40
One diagnostic X-ray.
$40
A full course of essential chemotherapy drugs.
“You wear orange not only to stand with our brave fighters, but to fuel the life-saving mission of KidzCan. Your contribution ensures that no child faces this battle alone.”
